Crisis detainees in Egypt does not end with the end of declaration of a state of emergency only !!!!!!!

 15/07/2007

Maat for Judicial and Constitutional Studies received with keen interest statements of Dr / Mufid Shehab, Minister of Legal Affairs and Parliamentary Specially end of the preparation of the People 22 articles of the Anti-Terrorism new Egyptian.

These statements coincide with the Egyptian delegation headed by Dr. / Mufid Shehab visit to the British capital London, where it was the head of delegation, which comes in the framework of "benefit from the experiences of countries with expertise in the preparation of the legislation to take into account the Egyptian model law to combat terrorism and the maintenance of a balance between the rights of citizens The security community.

" It is surprising that the visit comes with the continuation of the repressive practices exercised by the Egyptian security authorities against  Egyptian citizens in general and especially its opponents, According to one contained in the reports issued by the French news agency on the tongue of Egyptian security source, the number of detainees from the Muslim Brotherhood was only during the last six months 900 detained. This is in addition to the increasing cases of arrests carried out by the Ministry of the Interior recently to university students, as happened with the students of Al-Azhar University and the Institute of Shubra, Menoufia University and other !!!!!!

This is something that confirms that the fears of issuance of such a law in place, in particular in the framework of the policy of opacity which government exercises on articles that has already been drafted. How can the Egyptian government to speak about a ideal law to combat terrorism balance between respect for rights and freedoms and to protect the security of society - which refuses to respect the rulings of the release of the detainees ??????

If the Egyptian government to find in the British legislative experience ideal model to combat terrorism model, the its prior to follow the whole experience, the number of cases of arrests carried out by the British authorities since the events of September 11 and so far is only just numbers puny compared to the number of detainees in Egypt in one  incident, such as the Taba bombings.

For this, the Center confirmed  that are precursors to pass a new law to combat terrorism poses the dangerous of lawyer file crisis in Egypt, in particular it is much deeper than just fears of a new law might be eroded with guarantees respect for individual rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Egyptian Constitution and international conventions - but the actual crisis in Egypt to find their way in adopting the current culture of the police state, which will not end once the state of emergency had been As long as been  Constitutionalized  in a new formula, but standing under Article 179 of the Constitution, which granted the security powers exaggerated powers over current powers, which turning pages of real change in Egypt, identifies actual location of the tracks democratic tendencies.
