Does the  Egyptian judiciary follows Libyan judiciary? ! ! !

18/07/2007

The Egyptian Coalition Against the Death Penalty expressed its optimism that Supreme Council of the    Judiciary in the Libyan Jamahiriya giving  up on its   sentence to death   execute five Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor (Ashraf Hagoj) convicted in the case of child AIDS and replaced by life imprisonment.

This comes after waiver families of the children AIDS claim with the execution defendants after they receive compensation of $ 1 million per family. Maat for Judicial and Constitutional Studies (coordinator of Egyptian Coalition Against the Death Penalty, see that the court's giving up the judgment   is a step forward towards the abolition of death penalty from Arab legislations , in  particular the court has had  more than one option, either to accept reconciliation or support death penalty or modified.

Hence, the Egyptian Coalition Against the Death Penalty demands  Libyan judiciary to reconsider the death sentences in other cases, including the case of the Egyptians sentenced to death and the expected implementation of the death penalty against some of  them in the coming days.

The Coalition appeals to the Egyptian  and Arabic judiciary to follow  Libyan judiciary's acceptance of the amends in that case, and work to limit the application of the death penalty in order to be abolished.
