Death Penalty is an Anti Human Punishment!

30-06-2007

The Egyptian Alliance to Challenge Death Penalty expresses its worry about continuing applying death penalty in some countries while the number of stats, which cancelled the death penalty, reached 128 states.

One of the most offensive crimes happened in one of the most important states in the Arab World, which is executing death penalty on three heads of the last Iraqi system. The Iraqi Criminal Court gave death sentence to (Ali Hassan Abd Elmageed, known as Ali Alkemyawe, Soltan Hashem Al Taai, and Hosain Rashad)

While many members in the international and Arab community call for canceling death penalty specially in political and opinion crimes , the court's judgment issued under abnormal conditions and from a court affiliated to  a system built under occupation ,so the judgment  is described to have a political sense . This scene unfortunately happened before, within executing death penalty on Berzan Ebraheem Al Takrety, stepbrother of the toppled Iraqi President Sadam Hosain, and Awad Ahmed Albander, previous president of the Revolution Court. The court gave these two men a sentence of death, but the execution of Berzan Al Takrety was in a manner violates all international and human standers, because Berzan's head cut from his body and flew for 30 meter.

The execution of this penalty, which we wish to cancel, applied in a manner violates human and international standers. This is noticed in the execution of Iraqi president Sadam Hosain on the 1st day of Al Adha festival last year, which was the cause of the all Arab world discontent and sorrow in this festival.

To assure fair and just judgment it was necessary that the accused in war crimes be judged before international criminal courts or the International Court of Justice. So the Egyptian Alliance to Challenge Death Penalty call upon the international and Arab community to reconsider death penalty and to what extend it is related to the human right to live, to cancel this punishment which can not be corrected specially with the assurance of fair and just judgment for the accused before their normal judge .
